March 23, 2010 - Buyers from attending the MontréaL CollectionS Fashion Show. Despite a repeat of last year’s spring snow storm that diverted planes from landing in Chicago this weekend, over 300 buyers, reps and manufacturers made it to the Chicago’s Merchandise Mart on Sunday morning for the 10th edition of the MontréaL CollectionS Fashion Show.
Buyers were already lining up at 7:30 in the morning to catch a glimpse of the latest from Montreal and they were pleasantly greeted with Mimosa’s as they waited in line. Buyers were then escorted to reserved seating near the runway so they could have the best views of the 27 lines that would later come down the runway.
In the meantime, they were treated to a sumptuous Québec breakfast including Atlantic salmon and cream cheese, French Toast and Québec Maple Syrup, Canadian Bacon and a true Montréal favorite: scrambled eggs with Maple Syrup!
As the last model left the runway, buyers raced to the booths to place their orders. Samuel Dong, Katherine Barclay, and Mitchie’s Matchings, all of whom had a large presence in the show were inundated with buyers throughout the day. According to Susan Cameron of Mitchie’s “We were busy all day Sunday. The Midwest is one of our best markets.”
Norm Martell exhibiting his Point Zero outerwear for the first time at Stylemax found the fashion show “incredible; I have had so many buyers stop by afterwards.”
In fact, Terese Zache, President of Terese Zache Designs in the Hilldale Shopping Center in Madison, Wisconsin while placing an order with Point Zero raved that, “this was the best fashion show that I have ever been to in my life! And the food, unbelievable.”
Hans Behr of Tribal was quick to add “It was beautiful; we will want to double our presence next year.” Carla Luther of Tricotto stated, “I love that buyers are seated with reps and manufacturers at the same table to allow us to get to know one another. I had a couple of buyers at my table and we had a great time enjoying the delicious food. When they saw our colorful pieces on the runway, they came right down afterwards to order.”
The Sunday breakfast initiated 4 years ago by the Quebec Delegation in conjunction with the Mart starts the day off right with a sumptuous sit down breakfast, exhilarating music, with a backdrop of videos of collections from Montreal designers including those participating in Montreal Fashion Week this past year.
When asked why buyers are treated so lavishly at such an event, Keith Kalinowski of the Delegation stated, “We truly appreciate the loyalty of our buyers over the years. Despite the bad economy, our companies have not only survived this deep recession but many have thrived in giving the stores high quality fashion at a good value; something very much needed in this economic climate. Buyers keep coming back to our Montreal companies and we want to let them know that we are very thankful.”
Buyers and reps can easily find other lines from Montréal as well as stay in tune with the latest events taking place throughout the Montréal fashion sphere.
